How to Install the Playbooks Extension in Regular and Managed Environments

Overview

In this guide, you will learn how to install the Playbooks extension in regular environments and managed (enterprise) environments. You might need to install the Playbooks extension as a new user or if it is suddenly missing from Chrome and not allowing you to open Playbooks.

Regular environments

To install Playbooks in a regular environment, complete the following steps:

1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
2. Search for “XANT Playbooks”.
   
   
   
   
3. Click in the result Add to Chrome.
   
   
   

Managed environments

In many enterprise sales organizations, users are prevented from installing Chrome extensions.

To install Playbooks in a managed environment you must whitelist the chrome extension by completing the following steps:

1. Sign in to your Google Admin Console. (Sign in using an administrator account.)
2. From the Admin Console home page, go to Device Management > Chrome Management. (If you don’t see Device Management on the home page, click More Controls at the bottom.)
   
   
   
   
3. Click User Settings.
4. On the left, select the organization where you want to configure the app or extension policy. To apply to everyone in your organization select the top-level organization. Otherwise, select a child organization.
5. Go to the Apps & Extensions section.
   
   
   
   
6. Next to Allow or Block All Apps and Extensions choose an option. One option starts with all apps and extensions in a whitelist situation, the other starts with everything in a blacklist situation.
7. Next to Allowed Apps and Extensions, click Manage.
8. Select the source location and search for Playbooks.
9. Click Add, then Save. 
10. Click Save again.
